##The Role We're looking for an experienced Senior DevOps Engineer. In the role you will play a key role in developing and guiding the direction our infrastructure. Being a young startup, we have built up a certain level of infrastructure already but now we need to prepare it for scaling (both of our users and of our team). This is close to a green field opportunity: you'll get to decide what our infrastructure should look like and build a small team to fulfil your goals, all the while supporting our existing squads with ongoing product development. We want our devops team to be able to work closely together, as well as integrate within other squads when the need arises.
You should have broad practical knowledge as well as some experience leading and hiring a team. We are happy to help you upskill your leadership if necessary. In accordance with the servant leadership model, we very much view this as an enabling role and would expect you to approach it as such.
Our engineers are split into small multi-discipline squads of 3-7 people (engineers, product designers, UX, product managers). Squads are problem-focused and work on high level objectives, e.g. our Impact Squad is looking at ways the site's UX can be improved to increase retention of users. Squads use 6-12 week cycles to meet the objectives with continuous delivery throughout the cycle.
We have a strong belief in the value of testing - both integration and unit testing. All code goes through code review.
Deep work is valued throughout the company. We favour async communication over Slack and Notion. When we need to communicate in real-time we try to group meetings together to give everyone bigger blocks of interruption-free time.

The Infrastructure team at Buffer is a small team of 4 entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring our product engineering teams can deliver a high-quality, reliable and secure service to our customers. This starts from the lowest level of deploying and maintaining our Kubernetes cluster(s) to building custom tooling for other engineers to automate workflows of development and deployment.
